When a dedicated team beats a fixed-scope project

Clients often ask for a fixed quote when what they actually need is a team. The two models fit different situations, and choosing wrong is expensive either way.

Fixed scope: when the destination is known

If requirements are clear, stable and well-understood, a fixed-scope project gives you a defined deliverable, timeline and price. It rewards certainty and punishes change.

Dedicated team: when you're still discovering

If the product is evolving, the roadmap is long, or priorities shift with the market, a dedicated team gives you velocity and flexibility — capacity you can point at whatever matters this month.

A simple test

Can you write the acceptance criteria today and trust they won't change? Fixed scope. Will the next three months teach you what to build next? A dedicated team will serve you far better.

Don't buy a fixed price for a moving target — and don't rent a team to build something you've already fully specified.
